Жестокие тайны Лондона
У этого сериала несколько вариантов названия Современный потрошитель / Жестокие тайны Лондона / и собственно говоря оригинальное название - Уайтчепел (Whitechapel) - это исторический район Лондона, знаменитый тем, что сотню лет назад здесь происходили убийства, приписываемые мистическому серийному убийце Джеку Потрошителю. Мне кажется, более подошло бы именно название "Жестокие тайны Лондона" - потому что, хотя истории Джека Потрошителя и был посвящен полностью первый сезон - это далеко не единственное из расследуемых детективами дел.
Первый сезон - история Джека Потрошителя. Детектив-инспектор Джозеф Чандлер, страдающий легкой формой обсессивно-компульсивного расстройства возглавляет отдел где работает сержант Рэй Майлс — опытный полицейский-практик, жесткий и бескомпромиссный. Вместе им предстоит работать над жестоким убийством, произошедшем во время пожара. С самого начала Чандлер с трудом пытается найти общий язык с новым коллективом. Кроме того в расследовании появляется свидетель, который утверждает, что жестокий убийца — Джек Потрошитель. Поначалу маловразумительного «потрошителеведа» Эдварда Бакена не воспринимают всерьез, но его прогнозы начинают сбываться один за другим. Опираясь на историю серийного убийцы конца 19 века, группа детективов пытается предсказать действия современного маньяка. В ходе расследования Чандлеру предстоит сделать выбор, который повлияет на всю его дальнейшую карьеру.
Второй сезон - история братьев Крэй - гангстеров, державших в страхе весь Уайтчепел в 60-х годах. Сержант Рэй Майлс очень личностно воспринимает это дело, руководствуясь собственными скрытыми мотивами. Чандлер начинает громкое расследование. Детективам предстоит разрушить легенду о возрождении "кровавых" близнецов Крэй и найти предателя в собственных рядах.
Третий и четвертый сезоны - детективы расследуют разные убийства, совпадающие по характеру с делами прошлых лет - злой Бугимэн, коварный отравитель, охотники на ведьм, служители древнего религиозного культа.
Все четыре сезона смотрятся буквально на одном дыхании. Сериал притягивает, и он же весьма пугает, и иногда даже заставляет в страхе закрывать глаза. Очень качественный сериал с отлично выстроенным сюжетом - где найден грамотный баланс между триллером, драмой и истинно английским юмором пусть даже иногда с черным оттенком. Удивительно подробные исторические описания каждого дела тоже подобраны точно и в месту.
Актеры сыграли более чем достойно. Интересно наблюдать за развитием отношений Джозефа Чендлера и Рея Майлса - от взаимной неприязни и постоянных противоречий в начале, до дружбы и готовности прийти на помощь по первому зову в конце. Рядовые детективы отдела показаны не как машины для правосудия, без страха и упрека, а как в первую очередь люди, с их переживаниями, тайнами и страхами.
IMHO. Сериал завершили рано. 4 сезон просто оглушил меня совершенно неожиданным финалом, и оставил после себя больше вопросов, чем ответов. Хотя зная историю некоторых "провальных" продолжений - остается лишь признать - Не все тайны Лондона будут раскрыты. И в этом пожалуй есть некая притягательность.
